Preparing to release her sophomore album, “Bad TV”, on July 21, Kath Myers drops the alternative-rock title track alongside a highly relatable music video. Showcasing her style by delving into indie and alternative rock, whilst lyrically touching on depression, Kath Myers isn’t one to hold back and this release excites us for what’s to come from her. The release of the single “Bad TV” marks the follow-up to her 2021 debut studio album “Sensitive Groups”.

Kath Myers is a Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter who embarked on a unique journey to pursue her musical passion. After years of working in a corporate job that left her unfulfilled, Kath Myers decided to make a bold change in her early thirties. She moved to LA, taught herself to play the guitar, and poured her emotions into heartfelt songs that would later become her debut album, “Sensitive Groups”. Reflecting on her newfound sobriety, Kath Myers brings an honest vulnerability to her music, captivating listeners with her candid and raw expression. Influenced by renowned artists like Warren Zevon, Bill Callahan, David Berman, and Liz Phair, she creates a haunting sound that juxtaposes beautifully with her warm, mellow tone. Her lyrics, delivered with a touch of humour, strike a delicate balance of truth and charm, providing a blissful and therapeutic experience for both herself and her audience. As she prepares to release her second full-length album, “Bad TV”, Kath Myers explores themes of anxiety, depression, toxic relationships, and fear of rejection. With songs like “So Brave” and “Come Through”, she showcases her ability to craft infectious melodies and captivating soundscapes while delving into the complexities of human emotions. Kath Myers’ music is a testament to the power of honesty, vulnerability, and finding solace in the art of self-expression.

Talking about the track, Kath Myers said: “This song is about depression and how it feels like a force outside of oneself that has to be dealt with until it decides to move on. Like the sandman in European folklore, there are different interpretations of whether or not this character is good or evil. Humans are made up of both lightness and darkness and I believe that we have to become friends with both sides in order to experience our full true selves. Even though it can be crippling and painful.”

Written by Kath Myers, herself, “Bad TV” launches into a sonically alternative-rock track that has indie elements running throughout that match the atmospheric vibe that is created from her awesome vocals and incredible lyrics. Kath Myers doesn’t hold back one bit with this track, telling us her story and battle with depression and how the ones who hide it the most are generally the ones that aren’t doing so well. It’s such an important topic to touch upon, and in doing so, Kath Myers makes sure that every single one of her listeners knows that they are not alone in their struggles; her story within the lyrics is beyond relatable and is one that many listeners will be able to identify with, even slightly. The subtlety of the production allows for her voice and her words to take the spotlight. “Bad TV” is just one of those personal tracks that many people are going to fall in love with for their own personal reasons.

As for the accompanying music video, Kath Myers brings a melancholic performance, totally personifying the lyrics whilst also opening up to the viewers a bit. She effortlessly showcases how her feelings have ups and downs throughout the day, and sometimes it can feel like she’s putting up a front on a daily basis when inside all she wants to do is scream or break down. It’s a stripped-back interesting music video that relates perfectly with the song and also makes the viewer realise that they, too, are not alone in their thoughts and feelings and that Kath Myers also experiences the same things and sometimes just lies on the floor and watches the ceiling, too – there’s always something conceptual when we realise we are doing just that.
