Mick Foley has pleaded with Vince McMahon to remove US President Donald Trump from WWE’s Hall of Fame.

Violent Trump supporters stormed the US Capitol in an effort to stop the formal defeat of their leader as lawmakers met to confirm President-elect Joe Biden’s poll win on Wednesday.

Protesters clashed with police in Washington DC, which forced a lockdown at the US Capitol building.

An Air Force veteran, Ashli Babbitt, was fatally shot during the riots as Congress formally certified Biden’s election victory less than 24 hours after the ugly scenes.

Addressing his supporters at the time, Trump urged them to ‘go home now’ and insisted ‘we don’t want anybody hurt’, but failed to condemn their law-breaking actions, adding ‘we love you’.

After the decision on Capitol Hill to confirm Biden as president-elect, Trump for the first time promised an orderly transition of power, although he suggested that he would continue to stoke his grassroots.

“Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20,” he said.

“I have always said we would continue our fight to ensure that only legal votes were counted. While this represents the end of the greatest first term in presidential history, it’s only the beginning of our fight to Make America Great Again!”

The message was tweeted out by an aide, Dan Scavino, after Twitter barred the president from its platform for 12 hours.

And the scenes in Washington prompted wrestling legend Foley to tweet WWE chairman McMahon to ask him to withdraw Trump from the company’s prestigious Hall of Fame.

He wrote: “Hey Vince - how about throwing this sorry son of a bitch out of our Hall of Fame? @VinceMcMahon.”

Trump, who was inducted into the 2013 Hall of Fame alongside Foley, was involved in a high-profile WrestleMania 23 storyline in 2007.

He won the Battle of the Billionaires as Bobby Lashley beat Umaga at the Show of Shows, which led to McMahon having his head shaved in the middle of the ring.

WWE have reportedly restricted their talent from publicly expressing their political views.

And despite Foley making sporadic appearances in WWE, it is crystal clear he is not a fan of Trump.

In the UK, Home Secretary Priti Patel called on Trump to condemn the violence from his supporters.

She told Sky News: "The violence should stop and he should absolutely condemn everything that has taken place.

"There's no question about that at all. Someone was shot, people have died, this is terrible. Terrible beyond words quite frankly and there is no justification for it."

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer said the outgoing president should have made clear there would be an orderly transition of power 'a long time ago'.

Speaking at a vaccine centre in east London, he said: "President Trump has to take responsibility.

"What happened was appalling - it wasn't protest, it was an attack on democracy - and responsibility lies with President Trump, there is no doubt about that.

"Of course we all want an orderly transition. He should have said it a long time ago and so let's have that orderly transition, let's see President Trump take responsibility for his actions.

"Often what he says isn't matched by what he does, so the sooner we get that orderly transition the better."
