The future of actor and comedian Aziz Ansari’s hit show, Master of None, was in doubt after allegations of sexual misconduct surfaced earlier this year after an anonymous woman accused him of pressuring her into sex.
The 23-year-old woman faced criticism after her account was published on babe.net and its reporting style was considered to be questionable. Ansari did not deny that he had a date with her but released a statement, denying the claims and showing his support for the #MeToo movement.
However, since then, he has largely stayed out of the public eye apart from trying out new comedy stand-up material at various comedy clubs. He has also been spotted attending a Knicks game with fellow comedian Chris Rock.
Throughout all of this, Netflix have not released a statement or mentioned anything about Ansari’s award winning series, Master of None. However, Cindy Holland, Netflix’s V.P. of original content, has now told the audience at a Television Critics Association panel that Netflix are happy to work with Aziz again.
She confirmed that they are still backing him, and hope that the comedy actor will continue to work on a third season of Master of None.
“We certainly have given some thought to it,” Holland said when asked about the show, according to Variety. “We certainly would be happy to make another season of Master of None with Aziz.” Holland also noted that she has not spoken to Ansari directly since the accusations surfaced.
Master of None‘s season 2 aired last May which earned itself multiple Emmys in September including Lena Waithe earning the title of the first black woman to win an award in the outstanding-comedy-writing-category.
